When you think of the glamour, noise, and showmanship of Formula 1 racing, Renault’s F1 team might come to mind, but the Renault Trafic van… not so much.
Despite the dissociative connection, Renault has prepared 80 examples of the Trafic Formula Edition for Australia, celebrating the glory of Renault F1, or more specifically the hard work of Renault F1’s logistics team behind the scenes.
While Renault has a history of injecting some F1 prestige into its vans, particularly with the V10-powered Espace F1 of 1995, the Trafic Formula Edition isn’t quite so comprehensively made-over, retaining the Trafic’s 103kW/340Nm 1.6-litre twin-turbo instead of adopting the more highly-strung turbocharged 1.6-litre R.E 17 power unit from Renault’s F1 racer.
In this instance the F1 influence comes via the Trafic Formula Edition’s choice of Jet Black or Storm Grey paint, complimented by a yellow Renault Sport F1 decal package, body-coloured bumpers and tail light surrounds, yellow grille and fog light inserts, and a gloss black Renault badge up front.
Black painted 17-inch alloy wheels with yellow centre caps, a heated driver’s seat, 7.0-inch touchscreen navigation system, gloss black air vents and chrome trimmed instrument panel and speaker surrounds, LED interior lighting, leather gear selector and Formula Edition floor mats round out the changes.
Renault has priced the short wheelbase Formula Edition from $41,990 plus on-road costs with the long-wheelbase variant priced from $43,490 plus on-road costs. However, until June 30 both models will offer driveaway pricing for ABN holders of $41,490 for the short wheelbase and $42,990 for the long wheelbase.
