Mercedes-Benz G-Class Farewell Set Adds Two Special Edition Models

As Mercedes-Benz prepares to wrap up production of its iconic G-Class 4×4, two special edition models have emerged to help send the military-grade fashion accessory off in style.

The Designo Manufaktur Edition takes the personalisation options available through Mercedes’ in-house Designo division and turns them into a set-menu package available on the G 350 d and G 500.

Buyers will be able to select from Designo Magma Red, Designo Mystic White and Obsidian Black exterior finishes, accented with a range of black details for the mirrors, grille, door mouldings, spare wheel cover, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the Designo Manufaktur Edition dresses up with nappa leather from the Designo catalogue finished with contrasting topstitching, an AMG performance steering wheel in two-tone black and red, red seat belts, and leather trim for the roof-mounted grab handles.

The package also incorporates Mercedes-Benz’ Exclusive package, Sport Package, and Chrome package which adds a leather-trimmed dash, microfibre headlining, heated and cooled seats, side steps, a sports exhaust (for G 500 models), and chrome trim on the seat controls, speaker grilles, and luggage compartment.

The Exclusive Edition treatment takes the already impressive flagship AMG G 63 and G 65 models and tricks them out with 21-inch wheels, carbon fibre-look door moulding inserts, and the availability of matt AMG Monza Grey Magno paint with contrasting lower door decals.

The Exclusive Edition AMG models luxe-up with a two-tone interior including a leather-lined dash and diamond-quilted AMG sports seats trimmed in nappa leather in a choice of six colours. Designo options including a two-tone steering wheel, red seat belts, and leather grab handles are also available.

The Designo Manufaktur Edition and Exclusive Edition models join the ultra-exclusive Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet as commemorative farewell models of the G-Class, which started life in 1979 as a military vehicle before becoming an icon of modern wealth with the global SUV boom.

European customers will take delivery of the special edition G-Class models from September. TMR has contacted Mercedes-Benz Australia regarding local availability and will update this article with their reply.
