2017 Volkswagen Golf

Volkswagen has announced the pricing for its updated Mark 7.5 Golf range – including the Golf GTI and Golf R – ahead of the small hatch and wagon’s July arrival.

Entry level pricing rises slightly compared with the outgoing model, with pricing starting from $23,990 (plus on-road costs) for the six-speed manual 110TSI model, which takes the place of the previous 92TSI as the cheapest Golf, pushing pricing up by $1150 in the process.

Stepping into a Golf 110TSI hatch with seven-speed DSG automatic adds $2500. The wagon range kicks off with the mid-grade 110TSI Trendline from $28,990 with a seven-speed DSG.

Diesel buyers can only find the 110TDI engine in the upscale Highline models, from $36,990 for the five-door hatch, or 38,490 for the wagon.

Volkswagen is also expanding its high-riding Golf Alltrack range from one to three models with the German car maker lowering the point of entry to $34,490 for the base 132TSI compared to the previous price of $38,340.

The new, and more powerful Golf GTI hot hatch, receives only a small price rise, starting at $41,490 (up by $150) with the recently announced three-door Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 special edition with a gruntier 180kW and 370Nm, will cost $47,990.

No change to Golf R pricing sees the hatch models kept at the same at $52,990 for the manual variant and $55,490 when mated to a seven-speed DSG, with a permanent place in the lineup for the Golf R wagon as of early 2018, with Wolfsburg editions of the Golf R hatch and wagon also scheduled for later this year.

Mainstream Golf models are due to go on sale from July, followed by the GTI and R versions in mid-August.
