2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz’ smallest crossover, the GLA, has received a mid-life overhaul to keep it fresh and funky in the face of new competition from competitors like the Audi Q2 and Mini Countryman.

From the outside the changes are only subtle, but the GLA wears new front and rear bumpers, a revised grille, and additional chrome trim, depending on the model.

As before, four-variants are available, with the entry-level front-wheel drive GLA 180 starting from $43,900 (plus on-road costs) representing a small $300 increase over the outgoing GLA 180 with new LED headlights included as standard.

The sole diesel model, the GLA 220d starts at $51,200 (up by $800) and adds newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels and standard Hands-Free Access allowing the boot to be opened by swiping a foot under the rear bumper.

The GLA 250 adds 4Matic all-wheel drive from an unchanged $60,700 while the performance skewed Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 kicks off from $89,500 (up by $5185) dressed in new 20-inch multi-spoke grey alloy wheels with a machined lip.

Changes to the interior are limited to additional chrome highlights, a new instrument cluster, and minor changes to trim materials including AMG Dinamica suede-look microfibre cloth trim available for the first time in the GLA 45.

Available options packages include the White Art Edition which includes sports seats in faux leather and microfibre trim with contrast stitching and highlight stripes, a microfibre-trimmed sports steering wheel, white air vent surrounds, 19-inch alloy wheels and the choice of five paint colours. Available for non-AMG models only, the White Art Edition is $3789 for the GLA 180 and GLA 220d and $3280 for the GLA 250.

The second option pack is the Yellow Night Edition styling package for the GLA 45 which brings AMG aerodynamics, AMG faux leather seats with yellow contrast stitching, AMG steering wheel and yellow cabin highlights. The exterior gains a series of yellow design details, matte black 20-inch alloy wheels and black grille components for $3990.

A stand-alone 360-degree view camera system is now also optionally available.
