Lexus has revealed the details of what could be the brand’s most striking model yet, with Australian pricing revealed for the LC 500 and LC 500h coupe range.
Despite offering two distinct variants, one powered by a naturally aspirated V8 and the other running a hybrid V6 powertrain, both variants will wear the same $190,000 (plus on-road costs) pricetag.
Buyers looking for a more dynamic drive can also add a Lexus Dynamic Handling Package which includes a carbon fibre roof, Alcantara interior trim pieces, an active rear spoiler, four wheel steering, and a limited slip differential for the hybrid model (already standard on the V8).
The V8 powered LC 500 takes its 5.0-litre naturally aspirated engine from the RC F and GS F range, producing an identical 351kW and 530Nm, but instead of the eight-speed automatic of those models the LC 500 debuts a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 4.7 seconds on the V8, and occupants will enjoy an aural boost thanks to a tube that allows the V8 growl into the cabin. Fuel consumption is rated at 11.6 l/100km.
The LC 500h pairs a 220kW and 348Nm 3.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol V6 with an electric motor capable of providing 132kW and 300Nm. The hybrid model also uses a 10-speed transmission, although in this instance the design is a three-stage planetary CVT which operates through four-range stepper which operates like a traditional automatic for high efficiency with a more traditional feel.
Lexus claims a 0-100 km/h time of 5.0-seconds for the LC 500h and fuel economy as low as 6.7 l/100km.
Both models will come standard with 21-inch wheels shod with Michelin run-flat tyres, adaptive suspension, autonomous emergency braking, eight airbags, lane-change assist, tyre pressure monitoring, and a pedestrian protecting bonnet.
Standard interior trim is semi-aniline leather, with 12-way power adjustable front seats including heating a ventilation. Sports pedals, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.3-inch multimedia screen, and 13-speaker Mark Levinson audio system are also standard.
Buyers will be offered a choice of three interior colour schemes with Black, two-tone Dark Rose and Black, and a new Ochre trim option which combines “harmonising shades of brown”.
The LC range is the first Lexus model to adopt the company’s new GA-L product platform, which will also be used to underpin other rear wheel drive models, including the next LS sedan due later this year.
