Audi has announced details for its second-generation R8 Spyder, set to join the R8 Coupe range in Australian showrooms from this month.
Just one R8 Spyder model will be offered, sharing its 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 with the R8 Coupe (not the more aggressive R8 Plus) rated at 397kW and 540Nm and matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and quattro all wheel drive.
At $388,500 before on-road costs, the Spyder variant commands a $33,600 premium over the fixed roof model.
Audi claims the R8 Spyder can dash from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, with the potential to hit a top speed of 318 km/h
A fully-variable all electro-mechanical wheel drive system allow the R8 Spyder send up to 100 percent of drive to either the front or rear axle if required.
Audi has loaded the R8 Spyder with its 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, a premium Bang Olufsen sound system with headrest mounted speakers, plus Audi MMI navigation plus and MMI touch.
Open-air fans can open and close the fully-automatic cloth top of the R8 Spyder in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
Buyers can also add a range of carbon-fibre extra for areas including the side blades, front spoiler, and rear diffuser.
